Finnish Language - Lesson 25: Adjectives and adverbs

Hirveä (terrible) is more or less the same as kamala (awful)

The first adjective when two adjectives are together, ends with an -n. It is in genitive form.

Vaalea + sininen = vaalean sininen as well as vaaleansininen

Ilma on kamalan kylmä. The weather is awfully cold.
Asunto oli hirveän kallis. The apartment was terribly expensive.

Adjektivin vartalo + -sti: adverbi

When a -sti ending is added to the stem of an adjective, it becomes an adverb.

Nopea (quick): nopeasti (quickly)

Älä puhu nin nopeasti! Don’t speak so quickly!
Kaunis (beautiful): kauniisti (beautifully)
Liisa laulaa kauniisti. Liisa sings beautifully.

Tavallinen (usual): tavallisesti (usually) Tavallise is the stem (vartalo) of usual.
