Finnish Language - Lesson 14: "but"
BUT. There are two way to say but in Finnish: Mutta Vaan Martin ei ole somalialainen, mutta Amon on. Martin is not Somali, but Amon is. Martin ei ole somalialainen, vaan iranilainen. Martin is not Somali, but Iranian. Vaan is used after a negative and to indicate the positive answer. Mutta is used for everything else. Pekka ei ole opettaja, mutta Maarit on. Pekka is not the teacher, but Maarit is. Pekka ei ole opettaja, vaan opiskelija. Pekka is not the teacher, but a student.
