Finnish Language: Lesson 26

Place:
-la: paikka (place)
The -la ending indicates place.
For example:
Kahvila - place where you get coffee, cafeteria.
Ruokala - place where you get food, lunch room
Ravintola - place where you get nutrition (ravinto)
Autotali: garage
Liisa asuu keskustassa. Lisa lives in the center.

Käydä (kirjasto). Minä käyn kirjastossa. I go to the library.
Mennä (kirjasto). Mina menen krijastoon. I go to the library.
Both of these sentences mean “I go to the library”, however the first one is the most common one. It means visit since it states that I will go and then leave the library.

Kerran vuodessa (vuosi). Once a year.
Kerran kuukaudessa / kuussa (kuukausi tai kuu). Once a month.
Kerran viikossa. Once a week.
Kaksi kerran viikossa. Twice a week.

In the verb Juosta (run) the “-os-” is replaced by “-okse-”. Minä juoksen. I run.

Leena soittaa viulua (viulu). Leena plays a violin.

Tavata - mina tapaan.
Minä tapaan ystäväni kello 19. I will meet my friend at 19.
Halpa - halva-
Nämä kengät ovat halvat. These shoes are cheap.

Tapaan: meet
Tapan: Kill (I kill)
Koulutoveri: koulukaveri (school mates)
Kurssitoveri: kurssikaveri (class mates)
Mitä miehellesi (sinun mies) kuuluu? How is your husband?
Kiitos, hänelle kuuluu hyvää. Thanks, he’s doing good.

Mitä pojallesi (sinun poika) kuuluu? How is your son?
Täällä (Here)
Täällä on kylmä. (Here is cold)
Täältä (From here)
En halua lähteä täältä. I don’t want to leave from here.
Tänne (to here)

Tule tänne! (come here!)
