Finnish Language - Lesson 18: The use of "of"

How to make the plural form:
Auto - autot
Käsi - kadet

How to determine “of”

Genetiivi + -n (of)

Kuka hän on? Who is (s)he?
Hän on Suomen Presidentti. (S)He is the president of Finland. He is Finland’s President.

The “n” is the equivalent to the “´s” in English.

Tämä on Annan reppu. Anna’s backpack.
Tämä on Amonin lehtiö. Anon’s notebook.

Kuka (who): kene- (stem of kuka): kenen (whose)

Kenen reppu tämä on? Whose backpack is this?

Se on Annan reppu. It is Anna’s backpack.

Mitä (sinä) haluat tehdä? What do you want to do?
Mitä sinä haluat syödä? What do you want to eat?
Verbi + verbi (infinittivi). Verb + verb (in infinitive form).

In Finnish when we have two verbs the second verb is always in the normal form, in other words in the infinitive form you find in the dictionary.

Olla ulkona. To be outside.
Lapset ovat ulkona. The children are outdoors.
Mennä ulos. Go outside.

Lapset menevät ulos (ulos is in infinitive). The children go outside.
